X-Men #3

From my very own private vintage stock, I offer this cover proof for X-Men #3.  I only know that it was never used, and had assumed it was commissioned in case Jim Lee was late with his cover art.  However, the art is labeled 1992, and X-Men #3 had a cover date of December 1991.  If anyone has information on the genesis of this artwork, please contact me.

More Uncanny JRjr

Here is another cover from John Romita Jr's second run on Uncanny X-Men.  It appears to be labeled for issue #316, however his last published issue was #311. This art was later printed in Uncanny X-Men Annual #18.

Avengers vs X-Men

For the 30th anniversary of X-Men and The Avengers, Marvel published these anniversary specials.  The covers, by Brandon Peterson and Steve Epting, joined together to form this image.

Day Three

Here is a promotional piece for X-Men #1 in 1991.  This was a possible team lineup for that book before the final details were hammered out.

The art was finally used for the recently published X-Men by Chris Claremont and Jim Lee Omnibus.

7 days

To make up for the slow pace at which I've been updating this site, I'm doing seven days of quick posts,  including yesterday's John Romita Jr. post.  Today I'm featuring this whimsical cover for Comics Interview by Marc Silvestri.  This, of course, is not unpublished, but falls in the rarely seen category.

The Uncanny JR jr

Gaze in amazement at this unused cover by John Romita Jr.

Some would argue that it is an improvement over the one that was actually used for Uncanny X-Men 310.

Paul Smith

Here is an unused cover by Paul Smith.  I believe it may have been intended for Uncanny X-Men 453, since both 452 and 454 did have covers by Paul Smith, and issue 453 featured this particular team of X-Men in the sewers beneath Paris.
